Advancing your Spanish Skills the Hard Way

I've been feeling such a slump in my Spanish language acquisition lately that I thought a hearty dose of advanced level Spanish might do me some good. I've conquered the beauty salon; now it's time to visit the doctor and the dentist. What more difficult place might there be to practice the foreign language skills you don't have?

Actually, I really do need to see a doctor and a dentist here (no worries, just general maintenance), so for anyone out there in the Mexico City reading area, I'd really appreciate your suggestions and any advice you think necessary for a first-timer in the medical realm of Mexico. I prefer someone able to speak a little English since I actually don't want a hot and heavy conversation in medical Spanish. That I'll be ready for next year...maybe.

  1. Hey! I actually just called for a dentist appt today with a dentist who speaks English here in Polanco (went to school in Connecticut I think). Remind me after next Tuesday to let you know how it goes & I can pass on his details.

  2. I dont know about dentists in DF, but I've always found that the Hospital Los Angeles is a good destination for any medical need. Ive not been to the Mexico City edition, but the Hospital Los Angeles here in Torreón is great: attentive doctors (most speak English), quick service, not to pricey...it almost makes getting sick worth it.

  3. Patrick, I'll look into the Hospital Los Angeles. I haven't been doing a good job of taking advantage of affordable healthcare down here.

  4. Hey Alice, I've got a few recommendations - I only see English speaking doctors.

(And...we should hang out sometime! I too am from Texas, and Julie's a friend of mine. In fact, maybe the three of should all get drinks sometime soon....a "chicas night out" if you will?!)
