I discovered Dr. Pepper at the store today, and like a giddy little school girl, I couldn't wait to rip it open for just one sip. But then I decided that if I truly wanted a special first-time-in-Mexico-drinking-Dr.-Pepper experience, I better do it right and chill it first. So, as it sits to chill, I'm pondering whether it's going to be as good as Dr. Pepper in the states. Coke is better here; maybe Dr. Pepper tastes better, too.
A full, in-depth analysis is in the works, but I wanted to let you know about this super find in case you're a fan, as well. Just imagine -- one day -- washing your delicious tacos al pastor down with an ice-cold Dr. Pepper!
Alice,
ReplyDeleteWe must be birds of a feather. Yesterday I found three six packs of Dr. Pepper at Soriana and I snatched all three. You never know when you might find another Dr. Pepper. Now if I could only find some good Polish style Kosher dill pickles I think my life would be complete :)
We must be... because I was looking for pickles when I discovered the Dr. Pepper today. Not for me but for a school lesson.
ReplyDeletewe too have dr. pepper in our mexico city fridge right now that we found at wal-mart. i've found diet dr. pepper a few times at 7-11 in the refrigerated section and every time i find it, it feels like christmas. hope it was all that you thought it would be. :)
ReplyDeleteHubby stocks up on Dr. Pepper when we go to the city, which isn't often. 2 places in town our starting to carry it too, but not enough. They always run out. I bought the last Dr. Pepper on Friday. Finding Dr. Pepper in Mexico does indeed feel like Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteYou all are making me feel like I should run to the store today and pick up the rest of the cans I saw...these are rare occasions, huh? Leslie, is Dr. Pepper just hitting the Mexican scene or has it been around for years? I'll be looking for Diet Dr. Pepper at 7-11, Chrissie.
ReplyDeleteThey stock it regularly at the Superama in Santa Fe (on the way to Toluca) and it is so unbelievably good. Mexican Dr. Pepper may just be nirvana and it goes so well with al pastor. And the tacos de calle just around the corner from the Superama near the Pemex are the best I've ever had. Just sayin'
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine here in Chicago collects Dr. Pepper knockoff sodas (Dr. Sanders Soda, etc.). If any of you ever see a knockoff Dr. Pepper soda in mexico, por favor let me know. Gracias!

I waited 40 years for Dr. Pepper to show up in Mexico...I used to have my friends & contraband runners bring me 6 packs but now its more readily available. Hopefully it will stay on the market...I've seen things come and go... most Mexicans don't like it...they tell me it tastes like medicine. But there's enough repatriated Mexicans around now that maybe it'll catch on.
ReplyDeleteHMMMM... Dr. Pepper & a Frito Pie. Thats real Waco snacking!!!
Hi Bob, I'm hoping it stays, too. And I've been very impressed with the flavor -- very authentic!
